Hurtis begins season

Sprinter Muriel Hurtis is expected to return to competition earlier than planned and adjust her preparation plans ahead of the Olympic Games in Athens.

The French athlete, who won a 4x100metres gold medal at the 2003 World Championships in Paris - alongside Patricia Girard, Sylviane Felix and Christine Arron - will be one of the favourites for the 200m crown in Greece this summer.

She will make her return to competition on Sunday (16 May) at the Montgeron meeting.

"We had agreed she would be back between mid-May and mid-June, but the 200m races that are taking place during those dates are not convenient for her training," Hurtis' coach Guy Ontanon told L'Equipe.

"She is going to enter a very intensive training phase as from next week."
