World Marathon record holder Paul Tergat of Kenya who is the African Ambassador of the IAAF humanitarian project Athletics for a Better World has donated his 2005 New York Marathon winning vest and an autographed copy of his book Paul Tergat: 'Running to the Limit' to the IAAF.

Winner of a record five consecutive IAAF World Cross Country titles from 1995 to 1999, Tergat also won silver medals  (1997 and 1999) and a bronze (1995) over 10,000m at the IAAF World Championships, and two Olympic (1996 and 2000) 10,000m silver medals at 10,000m, the latest of which at the Sydney Games will be remembered as one of the most spectacular long distance races of all-time.

Tergat also won two consecutive editions of the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships (1999 and 2000). In September 2003, he ran a superb 2:04:55 to break the Marathon World record in Berlin.

An IAAF Athletes’ Commission member Paul Tergat has been a goodwill ambassador for the World Food Programme of the United Nations since January 2004.

Recently he won his first ever New York Marathon title in a thrilling finish and donated the vest which he wore on that occasion to the IAAF.

Tergat’s autographed donation will be auctioned at the end of the year and all profits donated to the United Nations Associations: FAO, UNICEF and WFP.
