MonteCarlo The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) is pleased to confirm that it will finance the reconstruction of a two-storey school as its contribution to the normalization of life in Sri Lanka. This follows a request last week from Sunil Jayaweera, the President of the Athletics Association of Sri Lanka, after President Lamine Diack expressed the IAAF’s sorrow about the human tragedy caused by the Tsunami, and willingness to help with the efforts of reconstruction.

The IAAF can also confirm that it has written to all the other Member Federations in affected areas including India, Indonesia, Maldives, Myanmar, Somalia, Thailand and Seychelles, for specific proposals as to how the IAAF can help.

The IAAF will also be directly involved in all International Olympic Committee initiatives to aid the recovery and reconstruction of those countries devastated by this natural disaster.
