Berlin, Germany – On the penultimate day of competition at the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics, Berlin 2009, the IAAF Council met in a short afternoon session.
Presided over by President Lamine Diack, the Council heard a closing report from the Berlin 2009 Organising Committee.
Competition Structure
IAAF World Challenge
In line with the Athletics’ World Plan, Council decided to create an Athletic One-Day Competition System based on a shared responsibility between the IAAF and the Area Associations.
As a consequence of the creation early this year of the IAAF Diamond League, a second tier of International One-Day meetings will be formed from those IAAF Permit Meetings who will not be part of the Diamond League plus the meetings of Daegu, Korea and Rabat, Morocco.
On the clear understanding that they will have had to satisfy all the requirements of the 2008 and 2009 Grand Prix level, these One-Day meetings will be formed into the IAAF World Challenge which will form the top part of the respective Area Competition System.
Along with Daegu and Rabat the list of the potential participants in the 2010 IAAF World Challenge are the following meetings:

The programme of any meeting of the IAAF World Challenge will be composed of 16 events with a minimum of 7 by gender.
A balanced programme of disciplines will be mandatory with the allocation and coordination done by the IAAF and the concerned Area.
The Hammer Throw will be included within the competition structure of the IAAF World Challenge.

Réunion du Conseil de l'IAAF – Berlin 2009, 22 août
Berlin, Allemagne – L'avant-dernière journée de compétition des 12es Championnats du Monde d'Athlétisme, Berlin 2009, a vu le Conseil de l'IAAF se réunir pour une courte séance dans l'après-midi.
Présidé par M. Lamine Diack, le Conseil a entendu le rapport de clôture de Berlin 2009, présenté par le Comité organisateur local de ces championnats du monde.
Structure des compétitions
Challenge Mondial de l'IAAF
En ligne avec le Plan mondial de l'athlétisme, le Conseil a pris la décision de créer un Système de compétitions d'athlétisme d'une journée basée sur une collaboration et une responsabilité partagées entre l'IAAF et les Associations continentales.
Une des conséquences de la création plus tôt cette année de la Diamond League de l'IAAF est la mise sur pied d'un second niveau de compétitions internationales d'une journée qui rassemblera les réunions d'une journée à Permis de l'IAAF qui ne feront pas partie de la Diamond League, ainsi que les meetings de Daegu, en Corée et de Rabat, au Maroc.
Étant clairement établi qu'il leur faudra au préalable satisfaire à tous les standards qu'ont dû rencontrer les Grands Prix en 2008 et 2009, ces compétitions d'une journée formeront le Challenge Mondial de l'IAAF, qui représenteront le niveau supérieur des différents systèmes de compétitions régionales.
En sus de Daegu et Rabat, la liste des participants potentiels au Challenge Mondial de l'IAAF 2010 se compose des compétitions suivantes:

Le programme de toute compétition formant le Challenge Mondial de l'IAAF se composera de seize épreuves avec un minimum de sept pour les disciplines masculines ou féminines.
Un programme équilibré de disciplines sera obligatoire, avec la distribution et la coordination gérées par l'IAAF et la région concernée.
L'épreuve du Lancer de marteau sera intégrée à la structure de compétitions du Challenge Mondial de l'IAAF.
