IAAF President Dr Primo Nebiolo was awarded the highest distinction of the Greek Republic

P>ATHENS, Greece "The Commander of the Order of Honour" - at a ceremony in the Presidential Palace in Athens on august 4.

The award was presented to Dr Nebiolo by the President of the Greek Republic, Costas Stefanopoulos, following the recommendation of the Greek Government and the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Following the ceremony, Dr Nebiolo presented the IAAF Golden Order of Merit to Mr Stefanopoulos.

The Golden Order, created in 1992 on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the IAAF, is the highest award in international track and field athletics. It is presented to Heads of State and representatives of the highest political authorities for extraordinary contribution to world athletics.

Among the notable recipients of the Golden Order of Merit have been HSH Crown Prince Albert of Monaco, HM Carl Gustav XVI, King of Sweden, HM King Juan Carlos of Spain, Nelson Mandela, President of the Republic of South Africa and Richard von Weisacher, President of Germany.
