A further 11 global medallists have confirmed that they will compete at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in Birmingham at the Alexander Stadium on Sunday 5 June, the meeting organisers announced on Monday (16).

The men’s 200m at the Alexander Stadium looks set to be one of the events of the day as the USA’s world indoor 60m champion Trayvon Bromell will be up against Canada’s Andre De Grasse.

Bromell and De Grasse, 20 and 21 respectively, have established themselves among the world’s best young sprinting talents and will meet over 200m in Birmingham.

“I’m really looking forward to testing myself over 200m at the Birmingham Diamond League," said Bromell. "I’ve had some close competitions with Andre (De Grasse) at collegiate level and especially in Beijing last summer, and it will be good to compete against him in a 200m.

“My indoor season went well and it was a great moment for me winning the world indoor title in Portland in front of an American crowd, but now I’m fully focused on the outdoors and Birmingham will be an important meet in my preparations for the Olympics.”

“The Birmingham Diamond League will be a great meet and I can’t wait to go and compete there," said De Grasse. "This is a really important summer for me and hopefully I can run a good 200m in Birmingham to set me in the right direction for the Olympics.”

Kendra Harrison, who set a world-leading time of 12.36 last month, will take on a stacked 100m hurdles field which includes her US teammates Kristi Castlin, Dawn Harper Nelson, Brianna Rollins and Nia Ali as well as Great Britain’s European champion Tiffany Porter and Australia’s Olympic champion Sally Pearson.

Two-time world champion Caterine Ibarguen will headline the women’s triple jump event and the Colombian could produce Alexander Stadium's first ever 15-metre jump.

Elsewhere in the field, Germany's Olympic champion Robert Harting will go up against Poland's world champion Piotr Malachowski in the discus.

Marina Arzamasova from Belarus and Germany's Katharina Molitor, the world champions in the 800m and javelin respectively, add further depth to a series of stunning fields in Birmingham.
