Inaugural Masters World Indoors gets underway in Germany

The 1st World Masters Indoor Athletics Championships, begin today in Sindelfingen, Germany (10 - 14 March 2004).

The IAAF is represented at this inaugural event by IAAF President Lamine Diack who will open the championships, and General Secretary Istvan Gyulai who will remain at the championships and attend the IAAF's Master Committee meeting which coincides with the championships (15 March).

The Committee, under the chairmanship of IAAF Council Member Cesar Moreno Bravo (MEX), will discuss new ideas for the sport.

The EAA President Hansjorg Wirz (SUI), the Area Representative for Europe on the IAAF Council, will also be in attanedence at the championships, which will be the first time that both the IAAF and EAA President's have attended a World Masters Championships.
