Istanbul 2012 - Flash Interviews - Men's 60m Hurdles Final

WinnerAries MERRITT, USA

I feel really good and I am very pleased with the result. Being a world champion feels great, I worked so hard. My semi-final was terrible because I did not hear the gun. My start was so nasty. Yet, I did not panic, just caught up and qualified. But fortunately in the final I reacted well because I heard the gun. My start was marvellous. I moved earlier this time and hoped I could maintain it.

Anytime you race Liu Xiang, you have got to be on your A, you have to give your best. It is just that I was better than him today. Beating him means a lot to me.

Olympic Games? Well, I first have to make the team which is not easy in the US. All those big names, champions and record holders - it is a privilege and honour to run for our team, here and at the Olympics.

Second - Xiang LIU, CHN

I knew Aries Merritt is a fast starter. So I got out in a rush and wasn't able to control my technique over the first hurdle. By the third one, I felt there was no chance for me. What a pity, but silver at the world indoor championships is OK.

Third - Pascal MARTINOT-LAGARDE, FRA

I'm both really happy and disappointed. I was dreaming of the gold. Of course, I wanted to beat Liu and Merritt, I don't set myself any psychological barrier. But I'm only 20 years old. I've showed a little bit who I am, I'm satisfied.
