Teams from 33 nations took part in today’s IAU 100 Km World Cup which incorporated the IAU 100Km European Championship, and was run as part of the “100 Km degli Etruschi” in Tarquinia, Italy.

Italy took both the individual and team victories in the men’s division and Russia mimicked this feat in the women’s race. Giorgio Calcaterra was the clear winner of the men’s individual title by over 2 minutes, while Russia’s Tatjana Zhirkova was more than ten minutes clear of her nearest opponent in the women’s battle.

The 100km asphalt circuit was a mainly flat racecourse (with some alternating hills and uphills finish in Tarquinia). The first 37km was on a straightway from Tuscania to Tarquinia, with the following 56k run on a 14k circuit, which was repeated 4 times. The final part, composed of about 7k, led to the finish in Tarquinia at the Piazza Cavour.
