On a dismally humid and overcast morning (65F and 90%), the threat of rain for the 29th running of the Bobby Crim 10 mile race (27 Aug) held off until the award ceremony. The deluge of rain was so drenching, the award ceremony had to be held indoors.
A large group of men and woman passed the first mile, and Asmae Lezghouzi held on to the slow pack of men till almost 3 miles, where her split was 15:13. Her women's race lead continued to around 7 miles where she was passed by eventual winner, Alevtina Ivanova, 30, from Russia.
Ivanova ran to a 53:34 win with an almost perfect race, running the first half in 26:27 and 20 seconds faster in the 2nd half to defeat Romanian, Luminita Talpos who finished 2nd, 1:07 behind.
Former 3:56 1500 performer, 49year-old Tetyana Pozdnyakova was only 4.17 seconds behind Ivanova, in 58:13
On the men’s side, 2005 World Championships 5km finalist, 19yr old Fabiano Joseph passed the half way mark (24:12) with a very slim lead with a pack of 9 men following, and eventually increased his lead by over 50 metres by the 7th Mile, getting away from Linus Maiyo and Julius Kibet Koskei, who finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.
