Jamaica selects 31 strong squad for Bydgoszcz

Kingston, JamaicaWorld Youth champions Dexter Lee and Ramone McKenzie, along with national junior 100m record holder Yohan Blake, were named in Jamaica's squad for the 12th IAAF World Junior Championships, Bydgoszcz, Poland, 8 – 13 July 2008.

Lee and McKenzie won the 100m and 200m gold medals at last year's World Youth Championships in Ostrava, while Blake, who raced to a national junior record (10.11) at the 2007 Carifta Games, is also the reigning 100m bronze medallist from the World Junior Championships.

Natasha Ruddock and Shermaine Williams, silver medallists from the 2005 and 2007 World Youth Championships respectively, and Latoya McDermott, the 400m silver medallist from Ostrava last year, are the other big names in the squad. Ruddock, McDermott along with Shana-Gaye Tracey were members of Jamaica's team at the last World Juniosr in Beijing, China in 2006.

University of Connecticut freshman Trish-Ann Hawthorne is to only new face in the 31-member squad. She has personal best times of 11.44 and 23.35 seconds.

Vaughn McKenzie, Dexter Lee, Nickel Ashmeade, Yohan Blake, Warren Weir, Rolando Berch, Kemoy Campbell, Ramone McKenzie, Akino Ming, Rasheed Dwyer, Oshane Bailey, Keiron Stewart, Andre Peart and Tarik Batchelor.
