US sprinter Carmelita Jeter will take on Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce in a re-run of the London 2012 Olympic Games 100m final at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in Shanghai on 18 May, the meeting organisers announced on Sunday (5).

The 2011 World Championships 100m gold medallist came home second behind Fraser-Pryce, who also won over 100m at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing Games, in London last August and she will be looking for revenge when the two clash again in what promises to be one of the highlights of the second meeting on the 2013 IAAF Diamond League calendar.

Jeter, now 33, also clinched a 200m bronze medal in London before famously anchoring the USA women’s team to a 4x100m Relay victory and World record in 40.82.

She will compete in Shanghai for the sixth time and is looking for her third win here after making her debut in the Chinese city in 2007.

Jeter has twice broken 11 seconds on the famously quick Shanghai track, including in 2009 when she ran 10.64 to become the second fastest woman in history.

The American joins the star-studded 2013 roster along with two other reigning world champions that were unveiled by organisers for the meeting in less than two weeks’ time.

Williams and Kiprop also announced

Jeter’s US compatriot Jesse Williams will compete in the men’s High Jump against the 2012 Olympic bronze medallists, Great Britain’s Robbie Grabarz and Qatar’s Mutaz Barshim, while Kenya’s Asbel Kiprop will take on his teammate Silas Kiplagat over 1500m.

Williams, ninth in the 2012 Olympic final, returns to Shanghai for the first time since 2010 and is hoping for his first win here, while Grabarz and Barshim will be among the 11 men aiming to stop him and are competing in Shanghai for the first time.

Like Jeter and Williams, Kiprop is no stranger to Shanghai. The Kenyan will be looking to make it third time lucky after finishing second on his two previous visits in 2010 and 2011.

Two years ago he went on from finishing second here to add the IAAF World Championships 1500m title to his 2008 Olympic crown, but he could only finish 12th in the 2012 Olympic Games final last August, while the 2011 World Championships silver medallist Kiplagat had to be content with seventh place.
