The Royal Dutch Athletics Federation has informed the IAAF of the sad news that their Honorary Member Bart Kappenburg died at the age of 85-years-old on 18 July 2008 in Groningen (NED). He was born on 19 April 1923.
Kappenburg was a very active and involved man in athletics with always a smile on his face.
During 1977 till 1985 he was General Secretary in the Royal Dutch Athletics Federation and he visited international athletic meetings very often.
