4 March 2001 – Kuala Lumpur - Kenya stole the show again in the men's category of the Kuala Lumpur international marathon on Sunday, with Penuel Nyagaka Osoro and Daniel Pittick Shungea grabbing the top two places.

The 27-year-old Osoro clocked 2hr 26min 25sec, with Pittick in second with 2:27.10 and Roy O. Vence of the Philippines coming a close third in 2:27.38.

It was the second consecutive victory for Kenya after John Kemboi Segero's victory last year. The defending champion did not compete this year.

Osoro said he paced his run over 42 kilometres (25.2 miles) through the Malaysian capital and gradually increased the speed as the run progressed.

"If I don't pace my run correctly, I may feel tired early. Only after the half way mark I start to come forward and it works," he said.

In the women's race Sunisa Sailomyen of Thailand proved she was in a class of her own with a time of 2:53.40 - way ahead of second-placed Malaysian S. Devamani who clocked 3:04:32.

Thailand's Apassara Prasathinphimai settled for third with 3:16:13.
