Triple world champion and world record holder Wilson Kipketer will make his long-awaited return to the track on Saturday after taking a year off following the Sydney Olympics.
The 28-year-old Danish athlete, who was a silver medallist in Sydney in the 800 metres, will return to action with his Sparta club in the national championship, a club official said. However, Sparta team chief Henrik Paulsen said Kenyan-born Kipketer will not be running in the 800 metres, but in the 4x400 metres relay.
"He is not in peak form, so he doesn't want to race the 800 metres," said Paulsen.
Kipketer had planned to return to action in April, but he picked up a foot injury in training in Portugal and had to delay his plans.
He won gold in the 800 metres at the world championships in Gothenburg in 1995, Athens in 1997 and again in 1999 in Seville.
