Kiplagat wins in course record at Utrecht marathon

Mariko Kiplagat of Kenya won the 7th edition of the Utrecht Marathon, The Netherlands in a course record of 2:11:16 today. The East-African was over two minutes faster than Dutchman Luc Krotwaar, who ran 2:13:43 in 2003.

Kiplagat was just six seconds faster than second placed Sammy Chumba, who finished second in 2:11:22. Chumba was the winner of the Marrakech marathon on 28 January this year in 2:11:43.

Kenyan runners made a clean sweep in the event which attracted over 13000 runners over several distances. John Rono, also within the old course record, took third place in 2:13:33.

Elijah Cheburet (2:16:08) and Isaiah Kosgei (2:19:20) came home fourth and fifth.
