Kiprop runs fourth fastest Marathon ever

Kenya’s Fred Kiprop ran the fourth-fastest marathon of all-time, to win the Amsterdam race on Sunday in 2:06:47.

Tesfaye Jifar, recently third at the IAAF World Half-Marathon in Palermo, made the fastest debut of all time in 2:06:49, good for second place. William Kiplagat of Kenya was third in 2:06:50 while Tesfaye Tola, in his first marathon, was fourth in 2:07:00.

With four athletes running below 2:07, the Amsterdam Marathon became yesterday the fastest race in the history of the marathon, first four athletes establishing respectively the fourth, fifth, sixth and tenth fastest time ever.

The Kenyans also enjoyed success in the women's competition, with Lornah Kiplagat winning in 2:25.29, a new personal best.
