Klüft long jumps 6.97 on way to Heptathlon win in Estonia

World Heptathlon champion Carolina Klüft of Sweden long jumped to a marvellous 6.97m (+1.7 m/s wind) on the way to winning the European Cup Combined Events First League meeting with a points score of 6769 in the Kadriorg Stadium in Tallinn, Estonia (3 – 4 July).

The distance was only two centimetres short of the Swedish national record of Erica Johansson set in Lausanne in 2000, and marks a massive new personal best for the 21 year-old Klüft whose previous longest leap was 6.86m (2003).

The overall win was Klüft’s second Combined Events victory of the year following on from her 6820 win in Gotzis, Austria on 30 May.
