Kluft - Swedish Sportswoman of the year

World Heptathlon and indoor Pentathlon champion Carolina Kluft has rounded off an impressive year with yet another award after being named Sportswoman of the Year by the Swedish Sports Federation on 31 December 2003.

The 20-year-old Swede rose to the forefront of athletics with a gold medal at the World Championships in Paris, which saw her achieve five personal bests in seven events.

Kluft who was also recently named European Female Athlete of the Year, has also been recognised for her achievements by her national sports body, who hand out the annual award in association with the Aftonbladet newspaper.

She was named ahead of golfer Annika Sorenstam and World Cup footballer Victoria Svensson among others, was thrilled with the accolade.

"It`s always flattering to receive awards," she told Aftonbladet. "There are so many who deserve this prize. "I have a lot of good memories from 2003 but the one I remember most clearly is the World Championships in Paris."
