Thomas Kosgei beat 300 other runners to win the men’s race during the second edition of the Fluorspar 10K race which was held in the scenic Kerio Valley in Keiyo district today.

Kosgei finished the race held under hot sun in 28:53 ahead of Richard Kipkosgei who was four seconds behind in 28:57. The victor’s performance was an improvement from the 10th position he attained in the inaugural race last year. The 24-year-old said he was using the race to better his speed for marathon debut in the near future.

The early pace setter during the race Gilbert Yegon finished 9th in 29:11 after losing steam in the final lap.

Africa Championship 5000m bronze medallist Silvia Chebiwott Kibet won the women’s event in 31:48. Eunice Jepkorir finished second in 32:01. Defending champion Mercy Kosgey, this year’s World Junior Cross Country bronze medallist, was third in 32:32.
