Kozmus vs Pars at inaugural Memorial meeting

Szombathely, HungaryThe Pál Németh Memorial International Hammer Throw competition takes place in Szombathely on Tuesday (8).

Several of the best hammer throwers in the world will gather together to honour the memory of Pál Németh who passed away early this year and who was one of the best hammer throw coaches of all-time.

The two main stars are local favourite Krisztián Pars who was fourth in Berlin, and his Slovenian rival, the Olympic and World champion Primož Kozmus.

Other athletes in the men's event are World bronze medallist Aleksey Zagorniy of Russia, German champion Sergey Litvinov who finished 5th in Berlin, Croatian champion András Haklits (7th in Berlin), Asian Champion Ali Al Zenkawi of Kuwait and Czech champion Lukáš Melich.

The organizers included three young Hungarian athletes as well; Kristóf Németh (former U23 European silver medallist), Ákos Hudi (Junior European silver medallist) and Dániel Szabó (6th at the World Junior Championships) will have the opportunity to show their talent in a high-quality field.

The women's field will be strong, too. World Bronze medallist Martina Hrašnová of Slovakia will face Tatyana Lysenko of Russia. Germany's Kathrin Klaas was 4th was 4th at the World Championships, just behind Hrašnová, and will now try to change the Berlin order.

Others include Clarissa Claretti of Italy, Sultana Frizell of Canada, Marina Marghieva (MDA) and Irina Sekachova of Ukraine.

Three Hungarian throwers, experienced Katalin Divós (formerly 4th at the World Championships), Noémi Németh (5th at European U23 Championships in 2007) and this year's European Junior Silver medallist Jenny Ozorai complete the women's field.
