Hammer thrower Pavel Kryvitski from Grodno, a finalist at the Berlin World championship broke his personal best in the Open team Cup of Belarus on Saturday (22).

In a four attempt competition at the ‘Locomotive Stadium’, Kryvitski sent the hammer 80.44m for first place, so improving his personal best by 42cm (80.02) which had been established on the eve of the Olympic Games in Beijing.

In Brest, Kryvitski was in good form from the first attempt, sending the implement 79.60m, with his main competitor Yury Shayunou from Minsk lagging behind by more than 5m at that stage. On his third attempt Shayunou produced 78.73, his season’s best, and it was that effort which Kryvitski answered by throwing 80.44m.

Kryvitski hardly managed to keep in the circle in the last round, but his throw was also valid -  78.98.

Third place was taken by Dzmitry Shako from Novopolotsk - 77.31.

“My main contender of the last years Yury Shayunou is improving all the time,” said Kryvitski, “but I was ready to throw on 81.5m. If there hadn’t been some small errors in my movements in the last attempt, I could have thrown further. I’m glad, that my results increase every year and that it was possible for the second time in my career to get an 80m throw.”

On the same day at the Brestsky stadium, the men’s Shot Put offered the highlight. Andrei Mikhnevich vs Pavel Lyzhyn, was the central contest which ended in the favour of Mikhnevich.

On the first attempt Mikhnevich produced 21.41m, and improved by 8cm on his next, and hit his best in the third round, with 21.81m. In the last round, the fourth, he again performed well (21.53).

The best attempts for Lyzhyn were his second (21.12) and the third (21.21) with which he broke his personal best.

After the competition had finished Mikhnevich made some practice efforts, as “after a successful winter season, I was unwell and only got the necessary physical form not so long ago…. Therefore after the end I’ve stayed in the sector and made some attempts to work over techniques,” confirmed the winner.

Nastassia Mironchyk won the Long Jump. In the fourth round, she landed at 6.84m a new personal best, an 8cm improvement.
