A capacity crowd of 2000 spectators last night saw Barbora Lalakova win the second leg of Moravia High Jump Tour.

The Czech had already taken the win at 1.93m on her first approach to the bar. She then followed clearing her first meet record at 1.95m on her third try and next took 1.97 on her second attempt. All that meant that Lalakova had improved the previous meet of Olga Kaliturina (1,94 in 2005) and the qualifying standards for the World Indoor Championships and the Olympics.

1.97m is the second best mark of Lalakova’s career, and she also tried three times at 2 metres, with two of the attempts being close. She is also the overall winner of the 2008 Tour based on both results from Hustopece and Trinec (1.89 and 1.97).

Ukhov loses out on gamble

In the men’s competition it was a gamble by Russian world season leader Ivan Ukhov which cost him the overall win of 4th Moravia High Jump Tour. Ukhov jumped 2.18 than passed 2.22 to go over 2.26 on his first try. He then passed 2.30 which after three close misses at 2.33 left him with a best  4cm behind the evening’s winner, Swede Linus Thornblad.

Sweden’s World indoor bronze medallist by contrast jumped 2.18, 2.22, 2.26 and 2.30m on his first. Then he also had three close misses at 2.33m.

In third place last night came Russian World Indoors silver medallist Andrey Tereshin who achieved 2.26 and came very close at 2.30m.
