11 July 1999 La RochesurYon, France - Cameroon triple jumper Françoise Mbango broke the African record in the discipline here on Sunday jumping 14.65m (+1.8) to beat by 46cm the old mark set by Algeria's Baya Rahouli in Padova (Italy) on 26 June this year and take 6th place in this season's world rankings.
The 23-year-old, remained unmoved by her achievement: "Before I came here I had only jumped 14.05m. All I wanted to do was to jump the mark (14.15m) that would have qualified me for August's world championships in Seville," she said.
