Defending champion Shawn Crawford presented the best credentials in the final round with his 20.50 win ahead of the national record of Bahamian Dominic Demeritte (20.67), only to be disqualified for a lane infraction after more than an hour's discussion by judges, leaving English champion Allyn Condon (21.03) to go through to the Final as Leslie Djone (21.09) fell victim to an inside lane.
Britain’s Marlon Devonish (20.63) and Joseph Batangdon of Cameroon (20.65) won the other two semifinals, also bringing Italy’s Marco Torrieri (20.91) and Matic Osovnikar of Slovenia (20.87) to Saturday’s final.
