Men 200 metres Final

Marlon Devonish of Great Britain took the cue from Michelle Collins’ race ten minutes earlier and parlayed his assignment in lane six to a World Indoor Championship gold medal.  His winning time of 20.62 perhaps didn’t draw the same superlatives as did Collins’, but it nonetheless added measurably to Britain’s medal success on the second day of the Championships.

Joseph Batangdon of Cameroon never appeared to be in a good position to try and neutralize the early lead of Devonish, and he had to be satisfied with the silver after his 20.76 clocking.

Until tonight, Cameroon had not ever won a medal at the World Indoor Championships.  Tonight, they won two silvers, as Françoise Mbango finished second in the women’s triple jump earlier the evening.

The bronze medal went to Dominic Demeritte of Bahamas (20.92), ahead of the 21.17 of Slovenia’s Matic Osovnikar.
