| Canada's team who had won the world title in 1995 and 1997 will not be able to defend the title in Seville. The quartet was disqualified in the first heat due to passing the baton out of zone. This first heat was won by the United States with double World Champion Maurice Greene as the anchor, clocking 38.06. The American team shall look for a gold medal which they have been missing since Stuttgart '93. Great Britain dominated the second heat with 38.31, ahead of Cuba (38.61). Finally Brazil, Panamerican champions won the third heat in 38.57, followed closely by Nigeria. The other qualifiers were Poland, Greece and Hungary. |

Canada, campeon mundial en las ultimas dos ediciones, no
podra revalidar el titulo. El cuarteto canadiense fue descalificado en la primera serie de
este relevo al salirse de la zona. En esta eliminatoria vencio Estados Unidos, con el
doble campeon mundial Maurice Greene como ultimo relevista, que realizo un buen tiempo de
38.06. El cuarteto norteamericano buscara una medalla de oro que no obtiene desde
Stuttgart'93. En la segunda serie domino el cuarteto de Gran Bretana, tercero en
Atenas'97, que registro 38.31 por delante de Cuba (38.61). Por ultimo, Brasil, campeon
panamericano y una de las mejores marcas de este ano, se impuso en la ultima serie con
38.57. Le acompano a la final el cuarteto de Nigeria. Completan la lista de salida de la
final de manana Polonia, Grecia y Hungria.   |
