Men Javelin Throw Qualification

Qualification standard 70.00 metres or at least 12 qualified.

Ten athletes went through to Sunday’s Javelin Final by satisfying the 70 metre standard and they all did so with their first throw.

The honour of the leading mark in the qualification went to Poland’s Igor Janik, with 73.84 metres, but he was followed closely by Korean Sang-Jin Jung with 73.31  and Australian Jarrod Bannister with 72.17 (a new personal best for Bannister).

Two Finns went through to the final, Teemu Virkkala (71.50) and Kalle Sillanpaa with 70.63.

Altogether, no fewer than 11 countries will be represented in Sunday's final.
