Men Pole Vault Final

FacebookTwitterEmail

Gold Medallist - TARASOV, Maxim (RUS)
"I cannot be the new Bubka. I am my own man. I hope when talking about the pole vault people will now not mention Bubka anymore but instead just talk about Tarasov. Bubka will not be pleased with this result tonight. Victory was the most important thing for me but the championship record gave me extra satisfaction. It was reasonably short competition this evening and the reason for this is that the qualification round took a great toll on everyone's strength. The qualification was just too long and so we all entered the final already tired."
Silver Medallist - MARKOV, Dmitriv (AUS)
"It was a great competition! I am really happy I got a medal and even more happy I am because I was saved from further injuring my ham string. I was injured in Zurich and could not even run the next day. Since I came to Sevilla I have had constant treatments from doctors, physios and massagers. I thank them very much that I was able to jump today. I felt the pain as I jumped but it wasn't too disturbing. I wanted to use as few jumps as possible. I used two in the qualification and thought of doing the same in the final. Those two jumps brought me the silver. The gold medal height was too much for me."
Bronze Medallist - AVERBUKH, Alexandr (ISR)
Proceeded directly to the doping control.
