Tyson Gay (USA) was in command of the race almost from the gun, and had established a clear lead by halfway. At the finish, Gay flashed across the line in a quick 9.88 (+1.1), fully two metres ahead of Francis Obikwelu (EUR-POR), second in 10.09.

Marc Burns (AME-TRI), in third, and Uchenna Emedolu (AFR-NGR), fourth, both ran 10.14.

This was Gay's sixth sub-10 second clocking in a row, in what is his first season below that benchmark of world class sprinting. US$30,000 was his individual reward.
