Men's 110m Hurdles Round 1 - Flash Interviews

FacebookTwitterEmail

Sam BAINES (AUS) 1st in HEAT 113.88

I feel pretty good after that. I just wanted to take the races one at a time - focus on one race and just do what I needed to do.

It wasn’t a perfectly executed race, so lots to improve on. I hit a few hurdles and stuff like that. I’ll improve on that next round...if I can do that, I’ll be in the mix.

Mitchell TYSOE (AUS) - 1st in HEAT 2 - 13.72 (PB)

It felt great from the very start. I got out first. I was mainly worried about my start, and it came together for me.

I was expecting [the step up to the junior level after competing in youth] to be a lot harder. One of my goals was just to get out of the heat, and I’m very happy.

I’ll probably need a 13.5 or 13.6 to get out of the semis. I think I can do it. I’ve got more in me.

Thomas DELMESTRE - 2nd in HEAT 2 - 14.10

The first three qualify, I’m second and qualified, there you have it. It was a bit of luck that the Cuban fell. It’s too bad of course. We’ll see tomorrow.

Orlando ORTEGA (CUB) - DNF in HEAT 2

I felt fine physically but I just couldn’t run on the track like I’m used to. I’m frustrated. It’s my first time running at a world championships and nerves, the track, the pressure got to me.

Jack MEREDITH (GBR) 1st in HEAT 3 - 13.77

I’m feeling all right. It was all right. Blowing off the cobwebs. One down, two to go.

I was itching to come to the track all week. It was nice. I got my first one out of the way, got my legs moving, woke me up. I clipped a few there, though. [My strategy is to] win. And then win again. The same thing [I did today], just move my feet quicker, hurdle cleaner, and I’ll be good.

Caleb CROSS (USA) - 1st in HEAT 4 - 13.56

It felt good. This is kind of a fun height (level) for me, because I’m used to the college height (level) . I wanted to come out and get a clean race, hopefully get a personal best at this lower height.

My start is usually my strongest part of my race. I didn’t stay as clean as I wanted to, but it feels great.

I’ve been sitting around all week - I got here Friday - so I just wanted to get out there and race.

[My goal is to] make it to the finals. Just stay clean, have a good start, and I’m going to make it.

Oluwasegun MAKINDE (CAN) 4th in HEAT 4 - 13.98

I’m feeling all right. Not too bad. The start was kind of shaky. I didn’t get over the first hurdle the way I wanted to get over it, and usually when that happens, the rest of the race is not the best. If I get to the next round, all I have to do is get over that hurdle the way I want to, and the rest of the race should go well.

It’s great - the track is great, the track is fast, and with all the Canadian support you really feel that much more energized to be able to go and compete.

Johnathan CABRAL (USA) - 1st in HEAT 5 - 13.63 PB

It was a pretty good time for me, I think I can go faster than that time. I’ve gone faster than that time a couple of times. I had a good, clean start, I need to get out quicker, and just finish strong.

[In the semifinals, I’ll] focus on getting out of the blocks faster and snapping my leg down faster between the hurdles.

Pascal MARTINOT-LAGARDE (FRA) - 1ST in  HEAT 6 - 13.53

A good race but, I don’t like to run in the morning. It worked out well though. I eased up at the end and still had a good time. It’s promising for what’s next.

I want a big time (in the semi-finals) and run right to the end.

Tremaine GRANT (CAN)  - 5th in HEAT 6 - 14.16  (PB)

I’m not feeling so good. It wasn’t a good race for me, but this stuff happens, so I’m going to come back stronger next year.

It’s definitely my trail leg. My trail leg caught the sixth hurdle and totally threw me off my race. I have a bad trail leg issue - I hit it all the time.

My goal was definitely to run a PB...I know what I did wrong, and coming from this, I know what I have to improve on next year.

Vladimir VUKICEVIC (NOR) - 1st in HEAT 7 - 13.49 PB

It was a good one. I got out pretty well, I kept up the speed and sped up a little at the end.

It was a pretty easy run. I was running with low shoulders and just relaxing and having fun. It was a good race.

I want to go out in the semi-finals, go out and be as good as in this race, and probably reach the final.
