Five men cleared 2.20, with Tomas Janku (EURCZE), Andrey Silnov (RUS) and Tora Harris (USA) all clean to that point. And that's the way they finished, with Janku clearing 2.28m to win, while European champion Silnov took second place on 2.24m thanks to a countback win at that height over Harris, who took two attempts to clear that bar to the Russian's one, both men having failed at 2.28m.

Winner Janku was motivated, he said. "I was really upset with my result from Stuttgart (World Athletics Final, where he was seventh), so I really hoped for better. I thought the competition would be hard, but in the end it wasn't“ and actually I was surprised to be so good. When I get home, I have some army drills to do, and then I' ll go to Egypt with my girlfriend for diving."
