Mikhnevich highlights Belarus champs in Grodno

Grodno, BelarusNatallia Mikhnevich’s Shot Put victory was the key highlight at the Belarus open championships in Grodno (7-8).

In just her second competition of the outdoor season, Mikhnevich reached 19.05m in the second round take the nation title.

Competing in heavy rain, Pavel Lyzhyn won the men’s title with a 20.17m best, also from the second round.

Pavel Kryvitski took top honours in the men’s Hammer Throw. Valeriy Sviatokha was the early leader at 75.38m before being overtaken by Yury Shayunov who threw 76.77m in the fourth round. Kryvitski however prevailed with a 77.42m toss in the final round.

On the women’s side, Volha Tsander took the win with 66.63m.

Ivan Trotski took the men’s 20Km Race Walk title in 1:20:48, ahead of Dzianis Simanovich (1:21:01) and Andrei Talashka (1:25:32). There were no competitors who could challenge Nastassia Yatsevich in the women’s race, who took the victory in 1:29:30 nearly six minutes ahead of Alina Matveyuk (1:35:20).

Yulyana Yushchanka won the 400m in 52.51, ahead of Hanna Tashpulatava (52.70) and Ilona Usovich (53.14). In the 800m, Natallia Kareiva took the victory in 2:02.99 ahead of Usovich (2:04.54).

Team titles were won by athletes from the Grodno region who topped last year's winner from Brest.

Hammer Throw: 1. Volha Tsander 66.63

20 Kilometres Race Walk: 1. Nastassia Yatsevich 1:29.30; 2. Alina Matveyuk 1:35.20; 3. Nadzeya Darazhuk 1:38.14.
