Irina Mikitenko and Carsten Eich won the German 10k Championships held in Regensburg (Bavaria) on Sunday (10).

Since Sabrina Mockenhaupt was absent it was easy going for Irina Mikitenko in the womne's title race. She clocked 32:30 minutes and was well ahead of Susanne Hahn (34:01) and junior Simret Restle (34:11). 34-year-old Irina Mikitenko intends to concentrate on the marathon in future, but no debut has been announced yet.

It was much closer in the men’s race. In the end Carsten Eich clocked 29:18 minutes and was just two seconds ahead of Stefan Koch. Embaje Hedrit came in third with 29:53. 36 year-old Carsten Eich had announced earlier that this is most likely his last season. “If I run at all next year than it would be just to run one final marathon in Düsseldorf in spring,” Eich said.
