Murofushi wins International Fair Play Award – Daegu 2011

Daegu, Korea – The International Fair Play Award for the IAAF World Championships, Daegu 2011, has been awarded this evening to World Hammer Throw champion Koji Murofushi of Japan.


During the evening session on the penultimate day (3) of competition of the 13th edition of the IAAF World Championships, in the presence of IAAF President Lamine Diack, Dr. Jeno Kamuti, President of the International Committee for Fair Play, announced that Murofushi, who was also the 2004 Olympic champion, had been awarded the Fair Play Award in Daegu.


Murofushi, who won the World title on 29 August with his season’s best throw of 81.24m, had already returned home to Japan, and so the trophy was accepted on his behalf by Susumu Takano, Head Coach of the National Team of Japan.


Also in attendance were Japan’s IAAF Council Member Katsuyuki Tanaka, and IAAF General Secretary Pierre Weiss.


Dedicates award to people of the Tohoku region of Japan

I would also like to give a special thank you to all of my athlete friends around the world who I have competed with throughout my long career.  You have always brought the best out of me."


"The people of the Tohoku region of Japan suffered so much after the earthquake and tsunami.  So many people lost their homes, lives, and loved ones, but continue to live with a spirit as strong as ever.  They inspired me so much during my recent visit.  I want to dedicate this award to them. I believe that my mission is to encourage them and keep reaching out to the people. Thank you."

Le Prix international du Fair-Play est décerné à Murofushi – Daegu 2011


Daegu, Corée – Le Prix international du Fair-Play des Championnats du Monde de l'IAAF, Daegu 2011, a été décerné ce soir au champion du monde du lancer de marteau, le Japonais Koji Murofushi.


Au cours de la séance en soirée de l'avant-dernière journée (3 septembre) de la 13e édition des Championnats du Monde de l'IAAF, et en présence du président de l'IAAF, M. Lamine Diack, le docteur Jeno Kamuti, Président du Comité international du Fair-Play, a annoncé que le Prix du Fair-Play de Daegu avait été attribué à Murofushi, déjà champion olympique en 2004.


Koji Murofushi, qui a remporté la couronne mondiale dans sa discipline le 29 août, avec un jet de 81,24m (sa meilleure performance de l'année), ayant déjà regagné le Japon, c'est Susumu Takano, l'entraîneur-en-chef de la sélection nationale japonaise, qui a accepté le prix en son nom.


Katsuyuki Tanaka, membre japonais du Conseil de l'IAAF, ainsi que Pierre Weiss, le Secrétaire général de l'IAAF, assistaient également à la cérémonie.


Murofushi dédie son Prix à la population de la région japonaise de Tohoku


Koji Murofushi a fait parvenir le communiqué suivant à cette occasion: "Je suis honoré de recevoir ce Prix, et tiens à remercier l'IAAF de m'avoir ainsi reconnu, et aussi pour son soutien récent à la population japonaise. Je veux aussi dire un grand merci à mes amis athlètes du monde entier, auxquels je me suis mesuré pendant ma longue carrière. Ils m'ont toujours poussé à donner le meilleur de moi-même.


"Les habitants de la région japonaise de Tohoku ont tant souffert après le tremblement de terre et le tsunami. Tellement d'entre eux ont perdu leurs maisons ou des êtres chers, mais pourtant la vie reprend le dessus, et avec un esprit plus fort que jamais. Toutes ces personnes m'ont véritablement inspiré lors de ma récente visite, et je veux leur dédier ce Prix. Je pense que ma mission est de les encourager et de continuer à leur tendre la main. Merci."
