Maria Mutola (MOZ) and Kelly Holmes (GBR), the women's 800m gold and silver medallists at this summer's World Championships in Paris, are in line for their first clash of the 2004 season when they race at the Norwich Union Grand Prix in Birmingham on 20 February 2004.

Mutola has confirmed she will compete over 1000m at Britain's National Indoor Arena. Holmes is also a certain starter at the meeting and is likely to join her close friend and training partner in the 1000m.

The race could even see a British indoor record attempt, with Jo Fenn's mark of 2:38.45 well within the reach of Holmes.

Mutola and Holmes are both looking for a strong indoor season as the springboard to success at August's Olympic Games in Athens.

Mutola, the reigning World and Olympic champion, is also a dominant performer on the indoor boards, and collected a record-equalling fifth World Indoor 800m gold last winter in Birmingham.

Holmes enjoyed notable success on the 2003 indoor circuit, taking four seconds off the British 1500m record before picking up a silver medal over that distance at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham.
