Nairobi, KenyaWorld Marathon champion Catherine Ndereba completed a double by winning the 10,000 metres of the Kenya Prisons Championships which concluded today at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Ndereba, who is the 2004 Olympic marathon silver medallist, clocked 33:10.1 to demolish the entire field with a solo last lap run. "I would have dipped under 33 if I had company," said the winner of the 5000m race on Friday.

"I will now return to the US for a six weeks training stint before returning back home for further altitude conditioning," said Ndereba who is aiming for the Marathon gold in Beijing.

Guest runner Pauline Wangui finished second in 33:35.4 ahead of former Commonwealth Games 10,000m champion Selina Kosgei in 33:53.2 who had shown a lot of promise and intent in trying to challenge Ndereba.

Timothy Kiptoo, second in this year's Prisons’ Cross Country Championships, sensationally won the men's 5000m. But Beijing Olympic qualifying standards remained elusive for the field of predominantly new comers.

Kiptoo out ran the opposition to clock 13:41.5 ahead of Bernjamin Kemboi (13:46.9) in the 5000m. His speed in the final lap could not be matched by Benjamin Kemboi who came in second in 13:46.9 and was followed by Stanley Muiruri in 13:55.1.

Reuben Bett was involved in a neck to neck tussle with Musa Kipchirchir in a thrilling 800m final before winning in 1:46.5. Kipchirchir clocked 1:46.7.
