P>MONTE CARLOMonacoDr Primo Nebiolo, member of the IOC and President of the IAAF, wishes to categorically and vehemently deny a quote attributed to him by Reuters News Agency in which he supposedly questioned the ability of Greece to organise the Olympic Games following the designation of Athens for the Games in 2004.
As he had always maintained in the race up to the 2004 Olympic decision, Dr. Nebiolo was one of the first delegates to commend and to congratulate the leadership of the Athens 2004 Bid Committee immediately after the decision, including its president, Mrs. Gianna Angelopoulos-Daskalaki, the mayor of Athens, the two IOC Members from Greece and the Minister of Sport from Greece.
Dr. Nebiolo wishes to emphasise his confidence in Athens' ability to organise an excellent edition of the Olympic Games in 2004 and looks forward to working closely together with the Athens organisers.
