Nerius throws 66.82m in Leverkusen

Steffi Nerius showed great form at the 15th edition of the Bayer-Meeting in Leverkusen on Friday night (31 July). The European Javelin Champion took her event with a 66.82m throw, a season’s best for her. The 37-year-old once again defeated Christina Obergföll, who had to be content with 63.11m.

Another athlete who could do well at the upcoming IAAF World Championships in Athletics in Berlin, Germany (15 – 23 August) showed promising form as well: Silke Spiegelburg established a meeting record and her best jump of the season. The Pole Vaulter cleared 4.70m and then just missed out on a German record of 4.78m. American Jillian Schwartz was second with a 4.55m clearance.

Competing for Turkey Karin Mey took the Long Jump with 6.87 m while Ralf Bartels produced the best men’s result. He won the Shot Put with 20.37m.

Elsewhere, Mario Forsythe of Jamaican won the 100m in 10.16 and Australian Lachlan Renshaw took the 800m in 1:45.73.
