19-year-old Lebvudu farmer's son Janus Robberts will be one of the star attractions in the forthcoming South African Junior Track & Field Championships, which start in Pretoria on Saturday.

On 7 March, the youngster broke the 1974 record of Terry Albritten of the USA in the event by one centimetre, when he threw 20.39m in the ABSA senior championships in Germiston.

Robberts will be a favourite to win gold for South Africa in the IAAF/Coca-Cola World Junior  Championships, which this year will be held in Annecy, France from 28 July to 2 August.

Hopes at the ASA Junior Championships are also high for 17-year-old middle distance runner Lucky Hadebe who has a personal best in the 800m  of 1:46.00.
