This evening in the Sportarena Yelena Isinbayeva set a new women's Pole Vault record of 4.86, while winning the gold medal on the second day of the 10th IAAF World Indoor Championships in Athletics.

During an evening session which had already witnessed multiple World indoor Triple Jump records by Russia's Tatyana Lebedeva, her 21 year-old compatriot Isinbayeva added one centimetre to Svetlana Feofanova's World mark that had been set in Athens last month.

With a clean jumping card until 4.81m, a height which she took on her second attempt, Isinbayeva vaulted her next bar, 4.86, on her first attempt to establish the new record.

For breaking the old mark Isinbayeva will receive a World record bonus of US$50,000.
