Olympic pole vault champion Renaud Lavillenie will compete at the Golden Spike in Ostrava on 20 May where he will be aiming to win for a fourth time at the IAAF World Challenge meeting.

The world record-holder opened his previous Olympic year campaign with a victory in Ostrava in 2012, setting a meeting record of 5.90m. He improved on that with 5.92m in 2013 and then notched up a third consecutive win in 2014 when winning with 5.83m.

The Frenchman, who owns the three best pole vault marks at Ostrava’s Mestsky Stadion, recently won his second world indoor crown, regaining the title he won in 2012.

“I will be hoping for a good performance,” said Lavillenie, who will face world champion Shawn Barber in Ostrava. “And, why not, I’ll attack the meeting record of 5.92m.”

Lavillenie and Barber are the latest global champions to join the line-up for Ostrava. Meeting organisers have previously confirmed the participation of world champions Julius Yego, Anita Wlodarczyk and Pawel Fajdek as well as two-time world indoor champion Pavel Maslak.
