Pars takes Memorial win over World champion

World Championships fourth placer Krisztian Pars won the inaugural Pal Nemeth Memorial Hammer Throw competition in Szombathely, Hungary, yesterday (8) with a fourth round 79.65m release.

Slovenian Primoz Kozmus, the World and Olympic champion was second with his third round, 79.42. Third came Aleksey Zagorniy of Russia with 79.02 ahead of Kuwaiti record holder Mohamed Al-Zankawi (77.95).

Tatyana Lysenko of Russia won the women’s competition with 72.79m with Germany’s Kathrin Klaas, second (71.32) and Slovak Martina Hrasnova, the World bronze medallist, in third (70.41).

The competition was held in memory of the much respected Hungarian national coach Pal Nemeth who died from heart failure, aged 71, on Friday 9 January 2009.
