For the first time in three years, Kenya’s Paul Tergat will compete in the Iris Lotto Crosscup – IAAF Permit - race in Brussels, the next edition of which takes place on Sunday 21 December 2003.

The former five-time World Cross Country champion (1995-1999) and now the world's fastest marathon runner of all-time since winning in Berlin in 2:04:55 (28 Sept), returns to the Brussels race which he previously won in 1995 and 1999.

Tergat stopped cross-country running in 2000 after his third place in the World Championships in Vilamoura, Portugal, at which he brought his medal tally up to a record 14 medals at the World Cross. It was the year that he started his preparation for the Marathon.

The appearance of the 34 year-old Kenyan, who is also a double World and Olympic 10,000m silver medallist, in the Brussels race was agreed on Tuesday (25 Nov) by Paul Tergat’s manager, Mr. Federico Rosa with Crosscup organiser Mr. Jos Van Roy.
