Pchelnik begins season with 72.93m

In Brest, Belarus on 23 May at the Belarus Cup, Beijing Olympic finalist Darya Pchelnik opended her season with a 72.93m performance in the second round to win the women’s Hammer Throw.

In the fourth and last round in Brest Pchelink, who finished fourth in Beijing, also produced a good 72.59m. The competition was held in heavy rain and cold conditions.

Alena Matoshka was second with 70.82m, and as Pchelnik is concentrating on the World Championships in Berlin (her next tournament will now be at the beginning of June in USA), Matoshka will represent Belarus in the European Team Championships.

In men’s Hammer Throw, 26-year-old Aliaksandr Kazulka won with 76.80m, second was Pavel Kryvitski – 76,23m.
 
Yury Bialou took a last round victory in the Shot Put with 19.67m.

There was victory in the women’s 100 and 200m by Volha Astashka (11.56 and 23.74), while the 400m went to Katsiaryna Bobryk, 53.64 sec.
