European 800m champion Adam Kszczot and Diamond Race 1500m winner Silas Kiplagat will head to the PSD Bank Meeting in Dusseldorf on 29 January with different goals.

Kszczot will be vying for his fourth victory at the Arena Sportpark, having won there for the past three years. But Kiplagat is aiming to win for the first time – and even challenge the 1500m meeting record – in Dusseldorf, following his fourth-place finish last year.

Two-time European indoor champion Kszczot already holds the meeting record following his 1:45.42 victory in 2014. This year, the Pole will be up against Kenya’s Alfred Kipketer, the world youth and world junior champion, who will be making his indoor debut.

The 18-year-old raced against Kszczot twice in 2014 with Kszczot winning on both occasions, but Kipketer ended the year with the faster season’s best with his 1:43.95 performance at the World Junior Championships.

Olympic bronze medallist Timothy Kitum was faster than both Kszczot and Kipketer last year, ending the season with a best of 1:43.65. The 20-year-old will also be in the Dusseldorf field, looking to improve on his fourth-place finish from 2013.

Kszczot’s compatriot, 2010 European champion Marcin Lewandowski, will also be in Dusseldorf, as will Germany’s Robin Schembera, who set a national junior record on this track back in 2007.

In the 1500m, Kiplagat will be one of three men in the field with PBs faster than 3:30. Joining him on the start line are world junior record-holder Ronald Kwemoi and World Championships fourth-place finisher Nixon Chepseba. They will all have the meeting record of 3:34.63 in their sights.

Meanwhile, Germany’s Homiyu Tesfaye, who set a national under-23 record of 3:31.98 last summer, will be aiming to break the national indoor record of 3:36.09.
