World Marathon record holder Paula Radcliffe has changed her comeback plans and will now make her first competitive outing since her disastrous attempts to become an Olympic champion, by running the ING New York City Marathon on 7 November 2004.

Radcliffe, the reigning European 10,000m champion had been scheduled to make a low-key return on the roads at the Run London 10k at the end of November but decided to change her plans after an encouraging month long training camp in Flagstaff, USA.

The English-woman who dropped out of both the Marathon and the 10,000m at the Athens Olympics this August, holds the World record time over 26.2 miles with 2:15:25. She will face a high class field in New York led by Olympic bronze medallist Deena Kastor of the USA, as well as Australia’s World Cross Country champion Benita Johnson.

“I’m really looking forward to coming to race in New York. I’ve enjoyed running there before because of the great atmosphere and the warm welcome I’ve received,” said Radcliffe. “After the disappointment in Athens, it’s important to me to get back to enjoying racing. That’s why I want to come to New York."
