Berlin, Germany - The main venue for the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics, Berlin (15-23 Aug) is the beautifully refurbished 1936 Olympic stadium but athletics will also feature at the very heart of the German capital too.

The road events of the championships, the two Marathons, the two 20km Race Walks and the men’s Race Walks 50km will not begin or end in a stadium, but rather will take place in the heart of Berlin. The start and finish will be located at the Brandenburg Gate next to the Pariser Platz, the city’s most famous square situated at the end of the Unter den Linden.

On 22 August on the same day as the men’s Marathon there will also be a 10km 'Champions Run' staged which is open to the general public - click here for more information

From the 14 to 23 August 2009, Berlin’s Olympic Stadium will also have a temporary counterpart from the realms of art: the KulturStadion in Pariser Platz. The city centre square will be transformed into an exciting meeting place with a large stage area, a track, and a roofed ‘Champions Lounge’.

The KulturStadion presented by Samsung offers a free daily programme of events from 2pm to 11pm, 14-23 August 2009, each individually themed, which will feature athletics exhibitions and shows, interviews and live music.

The KulturStadion will provide a venue where international visitors and of course Berlin residents can congregate in the very heart of Berlin mixing with some of the living legends of our sport.

There will be an IAAF segment as part of each day during which over the course of the championships IAAF Ambassadors such as Donovan Bailey (CAN), Steve Cram (GBR), Stephane Diagana (FRA), Heike Drechsler (GER), Jonathan Edwards (GBR), Hicham El Guerrouj (MAR), Maurice Greene (USA), Joanna Hayes (USA), Colin Jackson (GBR), Allen Johnson (USA), Michael Johnson (USA), Wilson Kipketer (DEN), Steve Ovett (GBR), Mike Powell (USA)... will be paying visits to the KulturStadion.

There will also be daily draws for tickets for the championships and other prizes, plus plenty of other athletics related ‘give-aways’, and of course there will be plenty of opportunities for fans to get autographs.
