France’s Olympic pole vault champion and world record-holder Renaud Lavillenie will compete at the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea on 4 June, the fourth leg of the 2015 IAAF Diamond League.

This will be his fourth appearance in the Italian capital, having won in 2011 and 2012 before a second-place finish in 2013.

Having broken Sergey Bubka’s world record last year with a clearance of 6.16m, Lavillenie will now target the Ukrainian’s meeting record in Rome.

Bubka’s 5.94m is the oldest men’s meeting record at the Golden Gala. At the time, it was a world record, surpassing the 5.91m set just minutes earlier by Thierry Vigneron in the same competition.

Lavillenie has cleared 5.94m or higher on 22 occasions. In 15 of those competitions, he sailed over six metres too.
