The IAAF is deeply saddened to learn of the death of the Belgian journalist Ronny Ceuleers after a long illness on Sunday (31).

Ceuleers, aged 68, was a familiar face in the athletics tribune at major international championships; liked and respected by his colleagues and athletes alike for his calm demeanour, amiable personality and professionalism.

He spent most of his professional life working for the Flemish-language newspaper Gazet van Antwerpen and he was also a press officer for a number of Belgian athletics meetings including, for several years, the famous IAAF Cross Country Permit meeting in Brussels which is held every December.

From 2000 until last year, he was the president of the VBS, the Flemish branch of the Belgian Professional Association of Sports Journalists.

He will be missed by all that knew him and the IAAF sends it condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
